There are many discussion groups that offer advice and a means of sharing your thoughts and fears with other parents and carers.

Cerebral Palsy Forum which presently has 113 members and is one I manage.

You do not have to join the group to read postings from other parents but will need to if you want to post your own messages. These types of forums are an ideal way of finding answers to questions that you may have from people who have been there before you. As a member of the forum you can choose to have e-mails delivered direct to your inbox or to view them on the website. Please note: it is important that you look into any answers you are given for yourself as this site cannot be held responsible for misinformation obtained from individuals.

Cerebral Palsy Kids run by Katy a young lady with CP. This group is run for children with CP to interact with each other and share their own stories, thoughts and fears. If you are unsure whether you want your child online with other children, you are always able to visit the forum yourself and see what's going on and what kind of messages are posted. It is worth remembering that whilst you do need to protect your child to a certain extent, cocooning them and shielding them from the world will serve no purpose, they need to be ready and able to take it on, head on. Whilst as parents we would like to think that our children would share all their fears with us, we should know from our own experiences as children that this is generally not the case - children often shield their parents!!!!! Actually, that leads me nicely to something I wrote a few years back. Its called remember...and it is worth remembering.
